Field work practice
Caribou Day Care
Week 1
I had a big problem what I didn’t received the criminal record check response in the Royal Canadian Mounted Police where like police office in Kamloops. I don’t know why I submitted criminal record and letter to the RCMP 1 week before but it seems like it took a over a week. This document was necessary to participate in the fieldwork, so my first week was over just by signing the contract about privacy policy and so on in my field work place Early Child Education. These contract documents were written by difficult and formal words. So some times I asked my supervisor Susanne what these words mean and are there any rules or policies to work in here. And fortunately she is very kind person. She answered my questions politely. Thank you Susanne:)

Week 2
Finally I could work here and meet my kids in my class. My main job duties are learning how to talk and take care for children and clean up the floor and backyard. At the beginning of this volunteer, I was in trouble that difficulty of talking with children aged 2 to 3 years. Their English speaking skill wasn’t perfect. So I asked cow-workers that what were children telling me so many times. The more I repeat it, the more I understand it. At the end of this program, I understood most of what they were saying and it became easier to communicate with them.
Week 3
I could get along with a shy boy Hank. He was new face at the daycare and he was very missed his mother. So he said “Mommy, mommy” and also he was crying so many times. I was very confused by his role. And I decided to try to get along with him. Then I talked to him and keep playing with him even if he ignored me. However, I couldn’t get along with him that day.
Week 4
Finally, many kids wanted hug me when time to I go back my home and they saying me “good bye Natsuki !” They remembered my name! I really wanted it!! I felt comfortable working here.

Week 5
I took 15 kids on a hill climb. And the hardest part was that there was only one boy who was selfish. He walked around on his own accord and got us into trouble. I tried to take care of him, but it didn’t work. But the cow worker was taking good care of him. And I thought it was just like a magic!
Week 6

I accomplished feeding children, cleaning bedroom, and getting along with them. Playing with children using some toys like puzzles, dolls, balls and books is quite ideal way to getting along with them. Actually, I could communicate with them more easily than before. In addition, I could learn English a lot from talking with children and cow workers. Most children can’t speaking English well. Instead of that, they tend to speak simple English. It was what I needed and very helpful for improve my English skill.
The last day in Week 7 and Conclusion
They gave me a thank you letter for me. I was very supervised because I never now that they prepared such a special gift for me. And I was grad to given that. At that time, I remembered what I did through this volunteer program. First day was so hard and very challenging for me. Because most of the children didn’t take me care. I knew that I was just stranger for kids. I tried again and again and then we get along with them gradually and spend a lot of time. especially, my best friend Gorden was the most difficult to get along with him. No matter how much I talked to him, he ignored me and played alone. The experience of overcoming these difficulties will help me mentally to overcome the difficulties that I will in my life.
